Spring Hikes

ALWAYS COME PREPARED: Bring plenty of warm and weather proof layers. Boots are preferable. Don’t forget your warm hat, gloves, sun hat, sunglasses, sun block etc. You must be equipped with plenty of water, lunch and snacks. Shelter/tent and sleeping bags are a must for any campouts. Optional – bring camera, binoculars, guidebooks, anything else useful and creative that you can think of. Most of all come prepared to have fun. May 29-31 Pearsoll Peak Backpack

Siskiyou Project's staff ecologist, Rich Nawa, will lead a backpack trip to the highest peak in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness, Pearsoll Peak, 5,098 feet. We'll meet at 10 am at Whetstone Trailhead (Onion Camp) and hike about 3.5 miles to Chetco Pass (1,000 ft elevation gain/loss). Sunday we will day hike side trails and then backpack 3.5 miles to Pearsoll Peak lookout (1,400 ft elevation gain). Monday we will hike down to McCaleb Ranch (4,000 ft elevation loss) on an old mining road and car shuttle back to Onion Camp. Call Rich at 541-476-6648 for reservations and arrangements. Group size limited to 12.
